Karl Ivan Solibakke is Assistant Research Professor in German at Syracuse University, where he is completing a study of the Great Books movement in the years between WWI and WWII and a monograph on comparative cultural memory in visual and textual contexts. Since the publication of his book on Ingeborg Bachmann and Thomas Bernhard in 2005, Solibakke has edited volumes and published articles on Benjamin, Jelinek, Heine, Uwe Johnson, Goethe, Schiller, Kafka, and Gustav Mahler. Solibakke was appointed Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences for Budget and Long-Range Planning in June 2009.
